As you may have heard, Palm released their new smart phone, the Pre, last week. I’ve been putting off buying a smart phone since I wonder if I truly need one – and the monthly data plan bill to go with it.
Even so, I’ve been reading the Pre reviews with interest. Right now my conclusion is to wait awhile for more apps, for Palm to work out a few bugs, get more in stock, and maybe lower the price. After all, Apple lowered iPhone prices this week: The 8-gig iPhone now costs $99 instead of $199. The 16-gig version of the 3G S will cost $199, and a 32-gigabyte version will be $299. (When the iPhones came out two years ago they sold for $499 for a 4-gig and $599 for 8-gig version.) Then again, I’m hearing there are problems ith AT&T’s Network.
There’s something to be said for being a late adopter.
Here’s a roundup of Palm Pre reviews:

Open letter to Palm Pre product manager:
I have been a palm user since its inception.
I think you did a huge mistake by not including
Palm Desktop and local sync. for Palm Pre.
As a hardcore fan I suggest changing your plan and commit to support
a desktop sync. mechanism for Pre (ideally with Palm Desktop).
Then publicly announce the plan and quickly allocation resources
to get that done as soon as possible.
It will cost you losing the battle to rivals if you don’t act quickly.
- A disappointed fan!
